This may not have been the strongest year in recent memory, but there was still some quality work. The three I have chosen to represent the Best Hair & Makeup of the year are:
District 9 (Joe Dunckley, Frances Richardson, Sarah Rubano, Leon von Solms)
Sharlto Copley's grotesque transformation into a prawn over the course of the film is "beautifully" realized by terrific prosthetics and body makeup. Check out this quick behind-the-scenes video.
The Road (Toni G, Geordie Scheffer)
The work in this film is more subtle, giving the characters a sickly pallour as illness and fear take hold of them.
Star Trek(Terry Baliel, Barney Burman, Ada Caefer, Mindy Hall, Joel Harlow)
Vulcans and Romulans and Clingons, oh my! Ok, so I don't think there actually were any Clingons, but they did have a hot girl in green body paint (hee hee)!
Just missed: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Harry Potter.
